ICE Arrested the Sister of Cuba’s GAESA Chief — Then Rubio Revoked Her Green Card

On May 22, 2026, ICE/HSI arrested Adys Lastres Morera in Miami. She is the sister of Ania Guillermina Lastres Morera, executive president of GAESA — the Cuban military conglomerate that controls an estimated 40–70% of Cuba’s entire economy through Gaviota (tourism), CIMEX, TRD Caribe, and the Port of Mariel. Adys had been a permanent resident in Boca Raton since 2023 and was listed as the manager of two Florida real-estate LLCs — Remas Investments LLC (formed April 26, 2024) and Sta Elena Investments LLC (formed January 14, 2025), both incorporated after her green card. Secretary of State Marco Rubio terminated her permanent-resident status under the Immigration and Nationality Act’s foreign-policy provision, and the Department of Homeland Security took her into custody.
The easy read is a single arrest. But the same playbook just ran on the family of Qassem Soleimani, whose relatives had their U.S. green cards revoked in Los Angeles — different regime, same pattern. Where the revolution’s own ruling family chooses to live, invest, and park money is not Havana: the residences are in Boca Raton and the corporate paper runs through Panama (Anlamex Corp.; Lukenwest Holdings, S.A.) and Florida — never Havana. Read alongside Executive Order 14404 and the May 7 OFAC designation of GAESA, Ania Lastres Morera, and Moa Nickel S.A., the move signals something narrower than a forecast: the safe exit to Florida is closing. This is a trend read, not a prediction of any specific outcome for Cuba. Three things tell you how Havana reads it — who the regime puts forward to negotiate, where its money moves next, and how fast it feels the squeeze.
