TEQUILA DAY STRATEGIC BRIEFING
It’s National Tequila Day, and you asked for a briefing anyway. So here is the entire board in three minutes. Nicolás Maduro is in a federal detention center in Brooklyn awaiting a 2027 narco-terrorism trial, and Delcy Rodríguez is running Venezuela with American services operating in-country. Cuba is dark and out of options. Colombia has a president-elect the sitting socialist president is trying to annul in court, and both of them are shouting the word “coup.” Iran’s nuclear program has been taken apart from the air and what Washington calls negotiation is a demand for surrender. Russia holds about a fifth of Ukraine at a cost of roughly a million casualties, and still can’t finish it.
Here’s the pattern worth carrying out of this. In this hemisphere the United States is the direct actor — it removed a head of state, it backed a winner in Bogotá, it is squeezing Havana — and the outcomes are fast and loud. Everyone else is reacting to that. China is working out how to live without Iranian oil. Russia is trying to beat a country it used to own outright. Nicaragua cancelled its elections rather than test the question. America acts, the world reacts, and whether that reads as good news or bad news depends entirely on where you’re standing.
