Brits Defend Armenian Democracy From Russia — TRIPP, Sanctions, and the 49 Names
On May 11, 2026, the British Foreign Office sanctioned 85 Russian
individuals and entities. Forty-nine of them work at one shop — the
Social Design Agency, a Kremlin-funded influence outfit — caught running
an election interference operation against Armenia. Russian business
daily Vedomosti reports that Vladimir Putin personally tasked his First
Deputy Chief of Staff, Sergei Kiriyenko, with reviving Russian influence
in Armenia ahead of the 2026 parliamentary elections.
The British move sits on top of a multi-year, US-led operation to walk
Armenia out of Russia’s orbit. On August 8, 2025, Prime Minister Nikol
Pashinyan of Armenia and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan signed a
peace agreement at the White House, brokered by President Donald Trump.
The strategic east-west transit corridor is named the Trump Route for
International Peace and Prosperity — TRIPP — with 99-year US development
rights. As part of the deal, Russian forces are withdrawing from the
Armenia-Azerbaijan border. In March 2025 the Armenian parliament passed
an EU accession law. Earlier this month Yerevan hosted more than 40
European leaders — including Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky and NATO
Secretary General Mark Rutte — at the European Political Community
summit.
The obvious read is that allied sanctions against Russian propaganda
networks are symbolic. The operational read is different: when a client
state defects in public, Moscow does not fix the alliance — it subverts
the next election. The British roster is the receipt for that operation.
The Armenian parliamentary vote is the controlled experiment. Watch it.
