SITDECK–a browser-based OSINT tool
A brand-new, free open-source intelligence (OSINT) tool just debuted this weekend as the Iran conflict broke out. Situation Deck (or SITDECK) graphically arranges over 100 data feeds for military, security, and judicial news. It’s not only unexpectedly beautiful, it’s super nerdy and fun.

Hey guys, it’s Eric Garland here. I’m a strategic intelligence analyst and I got to tell you, in my business, we don’t get that many toys that we get to play with, right? I have a base channel on YouTube where I sometimes will unbox uh an Even Tide H9 and go through all the the Reverb presets and have a bunch of fun with that. Uh, but in the intelligence business, I I don’t have that many out-and-out toys that I get to play with, which was I was really excited when this new software dropped for free online in beta version. It’s called Situation Deck or SIT Deck. And I am not being paid uh anything in consideration for doing this video. Uh, it just dropped and I have no idea who the guys are who made this software, but I’m having a ton of fun and I wanted to show you what it’s like to have software that will command up to like 171 different data streams on the environment, uh, military, national security, uh, even news, even uh, Supreme Court decisions, all on a single desktop, which if you’re in the business of looking at trends out in the broader world to bring home to your clients or you are just a super news nerd and you love to monitor the situation in in arenas where you’re not necessarily responsible for anything but you like to be on top uh of the whole thing.
This is an ideal kind of toy. So, it’s called Sit Deck and it’s free. All you got to do is go and drop your email in, get a registration uh code, and you’re good to go. So, uh let’s let’s take a look here at what you’ve got to play with. Um it starts you’ve you’ve got a number of ways you can make the globe uh appear here. So, this is the dark matter theme. Um this is raster. I don’t really understand what rasterization is in this uh context, but you see you can drill all the way in to the village area. This is this is Iraq, which is not on everybody’s Google maps uh to the same degree, right? Um and you can drill way down deep into exactly what part of the world you’re looking at. Now, there this is just a fun uh graphical representation of the world, right?
But you in the in the layers category, you’ve got 71 different types of information that you can command onto this uh this screen. So, I tend to prefer their standard dark matter here. And let’s layer some data on there. This is so cool. 71 potential layers. And you see you got environment, military and defense, security and intel, humanitarian and crisis, aviation and maritime, space and aerospace, data and infrastructure. Let’s uh before we get to the question that I really had uh when this got uh dropped this weekend, of course, we were looking at the situation in Iran, right, where um the United States had moved a lot of material into the uh into the theater and I knew that they had two aircraft carriers that had been deployed, but I didn’t know where.
And when I saw that it had like aircraft carrier location on this, I mean, I I just went nuts. Fantastic stuff here. Um, so you you log in, you you get you uh you get the globe here, and you got all the different layers that you can go through. Um, they they have a drop down for carriers, but let’s look at something that’ll populate um up to the minute here. Earthquakes. Where are the earthquakes all over? Well, holy cats. Um, I mean, we’ve seen this kind of data before. This is real time. This is where these are right now. Probably not surprising. You, you know, uh, a lot on these tectonic plates over in the Pacific here. Um, and you can drill in here. So, this is volcanic islands in the Japan region.
A, uh, a 6.0 on the RTER scale earthquake. Or we can go down here. This is the northern Marana Islands, the Pagan region. It’s a 4.5, a moderate. Okay. Uh you can see uh along some of these mountain ridges, uh Greece or Tajikhstan or Nepal, you’ve also got you’ve got earthquakes. if we want to see if there are um some terrain trends there like where these are located. Oh, here we go. Yep. You can see now where all the uh all the mountains are in in comparison to where the earthquakes are. Now, that’s just one kind of data that’s uh that’s interesting. It’s it’s not super duper interesting. So, let’s let’s go and turn that off. And I know that we have [snorts] um military operations going on right now.
So, let’s turn on military air, just the military flights. Okay. I think these are nonoperational flights. Let’s go one layer deeper. Turn on carriers for the United States, Australia, China, France. And now we have some of my questions answered here. CVN72, that’s the USS Abraham Lincoln. It’s a its home port is San Diego. Uh, it’s in the Arabian Sea right now. So, it’s south of Iran. CVN78, that’s the Gerald Ford, which we heard was in theater. They’re off the west coast of Lebanon, Israel, Syria. So, they’re able to attack Iran from the west to east. The Abraham Lincoln is able to go from south to north. Question answered. Where where is America protecting its naval uh military power? Boom.
from the west and from the south. Pretty cool. And we can go to the security and intel uh layers here. Turn on just where the opensource intelligence is coming from Twitter posts. Boom. You’ve got a ton around is Israel and a ton in Iran here. And you just click over the uh the bullet point or the uh the graphical blue point here. Third and fourth points are vague. This is a post from Ozent Technical that is a well-known open-source intelligence account on Twitter from March 2nd, 2026. So, this is yesterday. Um, it’s from Twitter and there’s a link to whatever Twitter article comes from. We zone in. We’re going to have a lot more options here. Breaking defense, how has a story on how US cyber operators could take on Iran.
Okay, that’s that’s media though. Iran is going all in on regional chaos. Okay, can confirm. Here we go. Iran’s under heavy aerial bombardment by US and Israeli jets. Um, that’s that’s open source intelligence that’s giving us the information that we want there. It’s not from the military. That would be espionage. We we don’t want to do that. We just kind of want to know what’s uh what’s going on here. So we can look at bombers, naval forces, who’s out, conflicts, and air strikes. Oh, air strikes. Okay. B Sheamesh has suffered extensive damage after an Iranian missile strike. Okay. Um, that would be actually a hit over here. So, the uh the AI seems to have taken the story uh about the hit over in Israel.
They’ve they’ve located the dot over here in Iran. So, that’s a touch misleading, but not a big deal. Did I mention Did I mention that this product is free? Uh they just dropped this a couple days ago. This is the beta version. There’s going to be paid versions in the future. I have no idea about that. Um, this is what they already have. And you know, I’m recording this. This is how smooth the graphics are. Um, you you mouse over it. You you zoom in. This is how crisp and clear everything is. Go click on this thing in Gaza. Okay. Israelis killed more people in Gaza. Johar.com. Part for the course here. This is is putting together all kinds of open-source media in a in a geoloccation here so you can see exactly what’s uh what’s going on out there with a reasonable degree of of accuracy and you pull back and you might get some information that you knew about somewhat or forgotten about.
So over here in Afghanistan, Pakistan, do you remember in the midst of all this Iran stuff that Pakistan uh started attacking the Taliban over in Afghanistan? Um maybe cleaning up some of the mess that uh we made. In fact, I I heard that the Pakistanis had bombed some of our remaining um military material that we left for the Taliban to attack other people with, which is not very nice here. So we can click around. Maybe there’s a story on that. Air strikes hit Afghan capital of Kabul hours after Afghanistan attacks Pakistan. Bombadier quart. Then I don’t speak that language. Don’t speak that one either. All righty. Now this subterranean logistics base in Afghanistan beddled Soviet invaders from historyet.
Um, so you you find yourself looking at Iran, you back up and you go, “Oh, that’s right. There’s war in Ukraine.” In Ukraine. Well, where else? What am I what am I missing here? Ah, yes. There are air strikes in the Traay and Yemen and and Sudan. The only place that I see tools like this are in extremely sophisticated corporate environments. And even then, it’s very rare. I used to build them. Um, or this this is something that uh you might see in a military environment, but to have it out there for free for for all you got to do is put your email in and then click on the stuff you’re interested in and you get this super cool video game level heads up display with show me where all the earthquakes are.
Now cross-hatch that with where all the aircraft carriers are. Now, tell me where there’s going to be a landslide. Uh, oh, one of my favorite graphics here. Well, you can turn all of these off and gets all quiet here. Subcables. Where are the subterranean internet cables and communications cables? Do you know where they are? Do you know how many there are? Boom. It appears. And and there’s all kinds of of other information that you can you can put there. And you get down. You you can add even uh news headlines, market headlines, and my my favorite heads up display here is legal and regulatory. I could have Supreme Court decisions and interpretation through the blogs here. I can expand that out and it’ll it’ll show at at any given moment what the latest Supreme Court decisions were like Mirabelli vibbont March 2nd 2026 per curium and vial v Texas which was a unanimous decision and I can click on on the boxes and it’ll open up the exact um opinion so you can read exactly how the court held This folks, this is just as cool as it gets.
Um, so hats off to the guys at SIT Deck, um, who again I am receiving no financial compensation for this. I don’t know them and they just started this a few days ago. Um, but I’ve been doing strategic intelligence a long time. You can’t even pay for anything like this right now to my knowledge. Um cuz I would build this into a lot of clients workflows just so they are aware and up to date on what’s going on in the world and just you know there there’s something about looking at this kind of thing that that makes you feel like you’re uh a master of the universe looking at the global map of these things and sure it’s cool and I guess you could make it sound silly and all that but beyond that having um a way to integrate all these data sets into a place where you can think about how they might relate to each other.
That’s really important. As an analyst, you know, I will read that stuff all day long. I will read it in linear text form and in my head it’ll form that map. Like I kind of know where Iran is and I kind of knew where a uh an aircraft carrier might go if the United States wanted to hit Iran and also secure the the area, especially around Israel where there might be reprisals. But to know it in our heads and to think about it abstractly is different than to see it in this beautiful colored package and this this graphically harmonious manner. Um so hats off. This is uh this is SID deck situation deck and uh you can go visit them if you want over at sitd.com right now. All you got to do is throw your email in.
I am sure they’re going to charge money for this at some point, but go have fun. Uh, think about stuff. Um, and, uh, be an intelligence analyst, whether it is professional or amateur. Have fun out there. Hey guys, it’s Eric Garland here. I’m a strategic intelligence analyst and I got to tell you, in my business, we don’t get that many toys that we get to play with, right?
