Trump’s Post Says the Talks Went Well. Then He Announces a Naval Blockade. Read It Carefully.

What Trump’s Truth Social post says and what it means are two different things. He opens with diplomacy. He closes with “locked and loaded.” In between, he announces a full naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and orders the seizure of any ship that paid Iran’s toll. The easy analysis is that this is incoherent. It’s not. The target just isn’t Iran.
Think about who paid Iran’s toll. Indian ships. Turkish ships. Pakistani ships — the country that just hosted the peace talks. When Trump says no one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas, he’s not threatening a country whose navy is gone. He’s threatening the rest of the world’s merchant fleet.
And if the Strait stays closed, the world has to buy American oil. That’s already happening.
