A Secret Court Slept for 30 Years. It Just Woke Up.
On July 15, 2026, the United States filed the first case in the 30-year history of the Alien Terrorist Removal Court — a court created by Congress in 1996 after the Oklahoma City bombing and never used once. Five federal judges, hand-picked by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, are empowered to remove foreign nationals from the country on classified evidence. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche certified the application the same day he sat for his Senate confirmation hearing. The presiding judge has ordered the government to supplement its filing by July 22.
The law didn’t change — the personnel did. NCTC Director Joe Kent resigned March 17 and was on stage with Michael Flynn and Candace Owens within 72 hours. Tulsi Gabbard was replaced as DNI by Bill Pulte on June 2, followed by dismissals across ODNI. The World Cup brought the biggest domestic security operation in FBI history. And on July 16, Secretary Rubio convened sixty countries against “left-wing terrorism,” with formal terrorist designations already on the books. For thirty years, the intelligence community refused to put its sources in front of any court — the same stovepipes the 9/11 Commission blamed for two al-Qaeda operatives living openly in San Diego. That refusal just ended. The question worth watching: who the respondents turn out to be.
