Communists Never Have The Majority

The word “Bolshevik” comes from bolshinstvo — “the majority.” Lenin’s faction never once held one. In Russia’s only free election, November 1917, the Bolsheviks took about 24% and finished second; in January 1918 they dissolved the Constituent Assembly by force. In Romania, 1944, the Communist Party had roughly a thousand members — about six thousandths of one percent of the population — and controlled the country within three years. In Berlin’s free city election of October 1946, the Communists lost badly to the Social Democrats, so the two parties were forced into a single bloc and competitive elections ended.

The obvious objection is that these are three different countries across four decades. That’s the point: the sequence is identical every time — a sliver of the population, an election used as a pretext, the next election cancelled, then secret police. None of it requires popular support; it requires control of the checkpoints and backing from outside. Watch for the sequence, not the vote count.
