In December 2023, a four-term elected Democrat in Missouri — former policy chair of the House Democratic Caucus — was removed from her committees over a single photograph. The national story said she’d posed with a Holocaust denier. Seven weeks earlier, that same man had publicly identified himself, by name, in Business Insider as an FBI confidential human source working on foreign interference in American elections. Voters were never told that part.
This is the opening of a full-length analysis of how political narratives get built — and who decides which story the public gets to hear. I’m one of the two men in that photograph, and I managed her campaign. Every document is on screen and dated; check them yourself.
