Competitive Futures is proud to be collaborating with the Ferguson Commission, providing strategic trends and scenarios for the future of St. Louis, Missouri in the wake of the past year of social unrest and difficult revelations.

We are looking at the megatrends which have led to a breakdown in the function of democratic governance at a local level. In this chart, you can see that employer-sponsored health insurance, a critical benefit for the work force, has been drawn down across every race, but particularly in African-American households.

Events are usually only the punctuation of broader trends changing society. In this case, poverty has been increasing while cities continue to finance themselves off tickets and court fees from citizens – a recipe for major tension.
